Breast or Bottle or Both?

**Happy World Breastfeeding Week**

Seems like a tough topic to discuss right?  But does it have to be?

Let me start off by saying I did Both.  YUP Both.  I have three boys and from the day they were born they had breast and bottle right in the hospital.

I also used both cloth and disposable diapers.  Why does everything have to be finite.  Black and White.  The world is full of infinite decisions.  Beautiful Colors.

Now for those of you who don’t know me I’m pretty hard core organic, holistic, and an  environmentally friendly Earth Mother so to speak.  My kitchen is full of natural and organic foods, I recycle, I’m all about homeopathic remedies, I use fluoride free organic toothpaste, I do not idle my car, I even use rags in the kitchen instead of paper towels.

However,  I both breast fed and bottle fed from day 1 and all three of my children are alive and have lived to be 16, 17, and 23 years old.

Does this have to be a debated subject?  NO. Do we have to judge each other on it? NO. Are others judging us? The truth is No, Not Really, No.

Hey we all know women were born with breasts given by God to feed our babies.  But didn’t he also give us the instinct to keep our babies alive.  And didn’t he give us the brains to figure out how to do that when things aren’t as perfect as they should be.

Lets face it as new mothers we worry about everything and feel judged by generations before us and new and old school methods.  My family is pretty old school.  Still some women breast fed some bottle fed.   But as far as parenting styles go I think we all have that old school mentality that if your baby is hungry, feed him/her.  For crying out loud just feed the baby.  Does it matter how or why you do it?

It is true that because God gave us these breasts it only stands to reason that they will produce the most nutritious form of nourishment for the baby.  But that doesn’t mean other issues will not come upon each and every parent facing them with this decision. And that decision does not need to be viewed as right or wrong.

When I had my babies I do not remember anyone caring one single bit about the fact that I did half breast half bottle.  Not Nurses, or Doctors, or Grandparents, or Aunts and Uncles.  Nobody cared.  They were my babies and nobody needed to care.  They loved me and were happy for me and my new baby whatever I chose to do.  Besides we’ve all heard the old adage it takes a village to raise a child.  Who in any family isn’t happy when they get their turn holding, feeding, and snuggling a precious little baby.  And pumping is not the end all be all fix for everyone.  Sitting around with a machine attached to my sore, painful breasts sure wasn’t for me.

Breastfeeding Week doesn’t mean we have to judge all those mothers who are not breastfeeding.  It’s just an opportunity to celebrate with those who do and can.  I’d like to think that Moms are Moms.  Parents are Parents.  Were all in this together.

If we are the new Mom lets stop being so hard on ourselves.  Give ourselves a break and feel proud of the job were doing however we choose to go about it.  Our baby will thrive off of our positive, relaxed energy as well.

So I say YEAH if your breastfeeding, YEAH if your bottle feeding, YEAH if your doing both.  YEAH to all parents feeding their baby!  Your doing an amazing job and I’m proud of you!!!

Sweet & Simple Newborn Session

How Sweet is this precious baby boy???

You wouldn’t know it but This Mama’s boy gave us a run for our money!

Sometimes we complicate things by going a little overboard with props and wraps and backdrops, and who wouldn’t want to I mean they are all so cute and there are so many options.

This little guy had other plans in mind which did not include leaving Mom’s side or getting into a belly pose… He put us in our place and reminded us to keep things simple.  I photographed this session right in the family kitchen using just a few simple wraps and ideas Mom and I had.  We were still able to keep with the rustic natural toned theme of baby’s nursery.  And I surprised Mom with this puppy hat I already had in my collection to match his puppy bedding.

And wasn’t it nice of him to give us so many picture perfect faces!  Mom especially loved the eyes open portrait with the puppy hat.  Lets face it when it comes to portraits the baby runs the show.  I had a Dad call me a Baby Whisperer in the hospital last week.  My response:  “He whispers right back.”

All and All His portraits turned out beautiful and Mom will have a great story to tell him one day…

So if your dreaming of a portrait session but stressing over where to go or what to wear or how will your baby behave – Don’t! We can keep it Sweet & Simple! It’s much more important to capture these moments before they pass by.

I mean look at this face!

I can’t wait to work on some artistic portrait composites with this little guy’s photos.  For more of my one of a kind portraiture work head over to this blog article Newborn Portraiture

Sweet Sunshine Newborn Session

Check out this little Cherub’s session.  She was all Sunshine, Flowers, and Funny Faces!

YELLOW… For some reason I’m all about the color yellow this year (as if you hadn’t noticed).

Isn’t it such a happy color?  There’s something bright and exiting, yet soft and soothing at the same time.  I remember as a kid when I would sleep at my grandmother’s the sun would shine in the window where I was sleeping like no other place in the whole world.  It woke me up and made me feel warm and happy.  Like yellow there is no other color like it in the whole world and it’s so warm and happy.  It can be Vintage, yet Modern.  Happy yet Moody.

It’s Sensational!

When I was little my entire bedroom was yellow.  I wonder if that means something?

Anyway I thought this little angel looked gorgeous in yellow.

And talk about vintage. She also reminded me of that Audrey Hepburn movie Funny Face.  If you haven’t seen it it is a MUST.  Once we woke her up she was all about Funny Faces and putting on a show.  Anyway it’s a musical and Fred Astaire sings this song to her:

“I love your Funny Face, your Sunny Funny Face…”  ~Classic~

Check out this Sunny, Funny, Face!!!

How precious is this sweet baby boy with his more than proud big sister and loving Mama??!!

I especially loved creating Tug Boat Baby and Fern Baby featured below.

I have been working on some new skills over the past year turning all my newborn sessions into beautiful works of art with my own digital backdrop creations.  I have always loved bringing the outdoors in and incorporating natural props and textures into each session.  I love nature and the outside world so much and what is more natural than a new little life, a tiny baby, an amazing gift to the world?

Using my own landscape nature portraits I can composite each new bundle of joy into the portrait creating one of a kind pieces of art.  You can help me create your own babies special portrait by telling me what theme you’ve used in the nursery, what hobbies your family loves, and what colors make your heart leap with joy.

The Fern Baby Portrait background below was taken in Oban, Scotland at the ancient Gylen Castle Grounds.  My son was studying abroad and I had the opportunity to visit him last Summer.  So exciting!

Tug Boat Baby was taken in Scituate, MA on my way home from photographing a wedding in this quaint little harbor town. I saw this scene and had to pull over to get my shot!  I had no idea three years later I would be using it for a Newborn Portrait but I just knew I had to take it.

I also LOVE supporting my fellow photographers and artists by purchasing their digital work and watercolor graphics for my portraits as well.

Delightful Baby Girl Session

This Delightful Baby Girl was so sweet during her session but she sure was too active to stay asleep for long.  I love that I was able to capture her gorgeous bright eyes and I adore her Mama Love Photos too!  As an added bonus it was so warm we were able to head outside for some rustic fall portraits.

Peach Rose Baby

Im so in love with this baby filled rose! A couple days after this sweet baby girl session I saw these roses blooming in front of my porch, in the middle if October!!  I knew when I saw them I just had to combine them all into this Peaches & Cream Baby Portrait.  It was so much fun to work on and fills my heart with joy!

Sweet Baby Boy Session

This baby boy was so sweet he barely made a fuss during his debut session.  He loved all of my photography props and I considered leaving them for Mom after we joked about how happy he was in a basket.  I especially love the way his snugly poses with Mom and Dad came out.  He was a photographer’s dream come true.
